From The Beginning:
Prior to the start of high school I had a landscaping business that consisted of manicuring local lawns around my Belmont Massachusetts home, which turned into shoveling contracts in the winter.
From here I worked during summers at Vincent DiGiovani’s landscape and garden supply store, unloading trucks, helping load customers vehicle and making deliveries as well as custodial duties at their apartment buildings across the street. That next summer I then worked at The Lodge in Harvard Square selling jeans, shirts and shoes to college students. The next summer job was working for my grandfathers roofing and construction company in Newport Rhode Island, which was the summer before I went to Syracuse University to study civil engineering.
The following summer I worked at Newport Roofing again before going back to Syracuse, but after that summer I did not plan on going back to work in Newport. While at Syracuse University I held part time jobs in different restaurants as a cook and waiter. The next spring my grandmother died suddenly and I decided to go back to Newport to work for my grandfather, Louis Chartier and moved in with him to help out. I did not go back to Syracuse that fall and for the next two years I ate, drank and slept construction until my grandfather died of lung cancer in the spring of 1984.
It was Louis’ wish for me to purchase his business, which I did the following year buying his business out of his Trust. The following year I purchased his 20,000 square foot shop after leasing it for a year. The name was changed to Newport Roofing and Construction in an effort to market that Newport Roofing had done a significant amount of developing and renovation work over the years. The majority of that work was done for Louis’ real estate company Chartier Real Estate. Chartier Real Estate was sold which meant we had to look elsewhere for construction projects.
Chartier Real Estate was formed in the 1950’s, and bought and converted many of Newport’s fine mansions, into luxury rental units. These luxury rental units became condominium units after Louis had died and his Trust sold the properties in the mid 1980’s. In the late 1980’s I subdivided the 20,000 square foot shop into business rental units.
Since buying Newport Roofing 20 years ago, the business has developed into three divisions, Newport Roofing, Newport Construction and Environmental Foam Systems. The roofing division continues to perform roofing projects all over the state of Rhode Island. The construction division performs renovation and restoration projects within Newport County, concentrating on repairs, maintenance and historic renovations. Environmental Foam Systems was formed 10 years ago and installs spray on foam insulation in three states, Eastern Connecticut, Rhode Island and Southern Massachusetts.
Over the years I have been working closely with many condominium organizations and property management companies in the Newport area, providing support and prioritized schedules of maintenance so that the property owners and managers can forecast projected cash flows over years and decades. This same service has been provided to building owners, private and commercial property owners, corporations and investors, before and after property acquisitions.
My desire to work with real estate as a sales associate started over five years ago. It was then that I began preparing my construction business’s to perform with a management team of highly qualified individuals. My construction back ground combined with owning residential and commercial property for almost 20 years, along with my expert knowledge of thousands of properties in Newport county makes my connection with real estate sales a natural fit and one where my customers benefit significantly.
My experience and background provides my customers with solid reliable information in a timely manner. The advantage to having accurate information in a timely manner allows my customers to make the right choices in the most efficient time frame available. In today’s competitive market, you have to be able to gather your information faster than the next person, if you are going to capitalize on what is available in the market place.
It is that same background and experience that helps me to market a quality property. I can define a quality property for all of its pieces as well as its whole. It is that detailed definition that will provide my customer the most that is available for their property. Some people can say that a property is quality by looking at it, but very few can tell you exactly why and put those details into a dollars and cents context
My goal is to educate the public so that they understand what they own or are about to own and that their choices are exactly the right choices for themselves at that time.
